SPOKANE — A man was arrested Monday night for allegedly stabbing a woman in the chest.
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a reported stabbing at an apartment complex near Whitworth University on E. Hawthorne Road, east of N. Division Street around 7:35 p.m.
According to SCSO, they found a woman who had been stabbed in the chest and started giving aid. She was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, who the victim knows, was located a short distance away and arrested. He was identified as 33-year-old Michael A. Helms. Deputies say while he was in the back of a patrol car, Helms began showing signs of a possible medical emergency/overdose and was convulsing.
SCSO wrote in a press release that “the suspect appeared to stop breathing, and Deputies administered Naloxone (Narcan) and removed him from the patrol car, where he regained consciousness.”
Spokane County Fire District 9 Firefighters provided additional care, and Helms was transported to a hospital as a precaution. After hospital staff medically cleared him, the suspect was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail.
Helms faces a charge of first-degree assault.
