KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. — A section of Highway 97 is closed due to a wildfire burning on Thursday afternoon, according to Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 4 p.m. on August 21, KCSO reported a closure on Highway 97, around milepost 162, near the crest of Blewett Pass.
The Sheriff’s Office said the fire is burning on both sides of the highway.
KCSO said only residents of Liberty and nearby areas are allowed north of the Lauderdale junction.
Kittitas County Fire District 7 confirmed the fire broke out in an RV and spread to nearby brush.
Around 6 p.m., KCSO said crews had slowed the fire’s forward progress and does not believe evacuations will be necessary at this time.
This is a developing story.
