SANDPOINT, Idaho — A local nonprofit is making sure hundreds of children are ready to go with all the supplies they’ll need for the first day of school.
This week, Angels over Sandpoint, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those in need and giving back to the community, hosted their annual ‘Back 2 School’ program.
Since 2002, the event has provided thousands of children with school supplies and backpacks to kick off their school year.
Last year, the organization provided over 800 fully-loaded backpacks to children in need.
The organization has had a tough year. It was recently turned down for two grants it had previously received and had to cancel one of its biggest events of the year.
Even so, with support from the community, Angels Over Sandpoint carried on with it’s ‘Back 2 School’ program.
“No child is ever turned away,” said Cindy Vogel, Angels Over Sandpoint board member.
This year, the organization prepared to provide 1,100 children with backpacks and supplies.
