The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said the 15-year-old who shot two other teenagers at the Fairgrounds Friday night was involved in a gang-related fight right before the shooting.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was at the fair with his family and girlfriend just before 9 p.m.
The Sheriff’s Office said the suspect got into a fight with members of a rival gang near the carnival rides at the south side of the fairgrounds.
While trying to draw a gun, the suspect fired off a round that passed through his girlfriend’s back and struck another 14-year-old girl in the leg.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies were already on their way to break up the fight when the shot was fired.
Crowd members helped police detain the 15-year-old suspect who still had the gun in his possession. Many in the crowd showed police videos that showed what happened right before the shooting.
The suspect was arrested and booked into the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center in Wenatchee. Investigators are recommending he face charges of assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, and reckless endangerment.
The Sheriff’s Office said there will be a large law enforcement presence at the fair Saturday and anyone causing problems will be asked to leave.
The two victims were taken to a Moses Lake hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. The Sheriff’s Office said both victims are undergoing treatment and are in stable condition.
UPDATE, 11:30 p.m. August 16, 2024
The Grant County Sheriff’s office has released another update regarding the shooting that happened at the Grant County Fairgrounds Friday night.
Investigators said the suspect is a 15-year-old boy from Wenatchee.
GCSO said a 15-year-old girl that was shot was attending the carnival with the suspect. A 14-year-old girl was also shot and police say she was a bystander.
Their condition is still unknown.
GCSO said they will release more information on Saturday.
UPDATE, 10:13 p.m. August 16, 2024
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said two teenagers were shot at the carnival end of the Fairgrounds Friday night.
One person has been detained in connection with the shooting. The Sheriff’s Office said it is unclear at this time if the person detained has any connection to the victims.
Both teens were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
According to deputies, there is no continued threat to the public.
The carnival portion of the Fairgrounds has been evacuated.
The Sheriff’s Office said the rodeo will be evacuated after events end. The campground is not evacuating at this time.

One person has been detained for shooting at least one other at the Grant County Fairgrounds Friday night.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the rodeo is not being evacuated at this time.
If you are on the carnival side of the Fairgrounds, the Sheriff’s Office asks you to calmly evacuate.
