HOPE, Idaho — Fire crews are continuing to battle a growing wildfire near Hope on Sunday afternoon, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The wildfire burning about 8 miles northeast of Hope, Idaho, near Lake Pend Oreille, has grown to roughly 700-acres, or 1 square mile, as of Sunday afternoon.
U.S. Forest Service said the cause of the fire is believed to be lightning.
The fire, also known as the ‘Lightning Creek Fire,’ is burning between Mud Creek and Trapper Creek drainages and, as of Sunday, is 0% contained.
USFS said no evacuations are currently in place for the fire.
The Lightning Creek Fire broke out on July 30.
As of Sunday afternoon, emergency road closures are still in place. Lightning Creek Road is currently closed from the junction of Trestle Creek Road to Regal Creek.
Two fire engines and three helicopters are amongst the 42-person response to the wildfire.
