SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho — Skeletal remains discovered at a Spokane homeless camp have been identified as Dylan Harrington, the suspected killer in a double homicide case, ending a multi-year manhunt.
The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) announced Thursday that Harrington’s remains were found in April 2025. DNA analysis and dental records confirmed the identification.
According to OCSO, the breakthrough came when the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office uploaded DNA from the remains into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), which matched suspect DNA from the David and Gerlyn Covey crime scene.
OCSO said on July 22, the medical examiner contacted Chief Criminal Deputy Jodie Barcus about the match. Detectives met with Harrington’s family the next day for DNA comparison samples. The identification was confirmed July 24.
Harrington had been the primary suspect in the Covey deaths but evaded capture despite efforts by multiple agencies.
The Sheriff’s Office thanked all agencies, media and public members who provided tips during the investigation. Officials said they hope the Covey family can move forward with closure.
The circumstances surrounding Harrington’s death remain under investigation.
