SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Deputies arrested a 15-year-old girl for assaulting a man and threatening him with a knife during a multi-person fight on the banks of the Spokane River.
Around 7 p.m. on July 23, Spokane Valley deputies responded to a call about a person with a knife near Discovery Playground along Mirabeau Parkway.
Additional callers reported seeing eight teenagers physically fighting nearby along the Spokane River.
When deputies arrived, they found the victim and the 15-year-old suspect, both showing signs of intoxication, according to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
SCSO did not specify the victim’s age, only that he was an adult.
The victim told deputies he was headed to the river with the 15-year-old and some friends because he was going to be placed on house arrest the next day.
On the way to the river, they ran into some friends of the 15-year-old and they all began hanging out and drinking alcohol together.
At one point, a friend of the 15-year-old threw the victim’s tumbler to the ground and they began to argue. The victim then poured water on the friend.
SCSO said during the argument, the suspect approached the victim with a 12-inch knife and said she would stab him.
Other people in the group separated the victim and the suspect, but they soon exchanged a few more words.
Eventually, the suspect grabbed the victim by the hair, pulled his head down onto a rock and punched him in the face. He told deputies he tried to protect himself and get others to pull the victim off of him. He estimated he was punched about 25 times.
SCSO said the victim’s mouth was bloody and he had several lacerations and bruises.
An uninvolved witness confirmed the victim’s account to deputies.
Deputies found the knife and arrested the 15-year-old girl.
She was booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for fourth-degree assault and harassment with a weapon.
