SPOKANE, Wash. — Firefighters responded to two fires in the same area Tuesday morning.
According to the Spokane Fire Department, the first fire was reported a little before 11 a.m. on East Harston Avenue.
Firefighters arrived to find grass and trees burning on a hillside and threatening one structure.
Firefighters called in help from Fire District 8, the Spokane Valley Fire Department and the Washington Department of Natural Resources due to the strong winds rapidly pushing the fire uphill.
The fire was under control within 15 minutes.
During the mop-up phase of the first fire, a second fire was reported on East 8th Avenue. Firefighters went to the area to find a fire spreading across the backyards of two homes and threatening one home and a shed.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent further property damage.
SFD says the second fire was caused by embers carried from the hillside fire, though both fires are still under investigation.
Spokane Police interviewed two people that were seen by neighbors in the area.
No injuries were reported and damage was limited to fences and debris.
