SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Spokane Valley and Spokane County deputies arrested a 13-year-old runaway Wednesday evening after the juvenile crashed a stolen truck while driving recklessly near Interstate 90.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the incident began at 9:15 p.m. on July 10, 2025, when a motorist reported seeing a white truck swerving on E. Broadway Avenue. The caller said the vehicle appeared to be driven by a child.
SCSO said Air 1 helicopter located the truck near the intersection of North Dyer Road and Broadway Avenue. The juvenile driver continued eastbound and attempted to enter I-90 but crashed into a retaining barrier on the on-ramp.
When deputies and a Washington State Patrol trooper arrived, the suspect drove into the grass median and tried to access the westbound on-ramp, where the truck became stuck. Deputies safely took the juvenile into custody.
Authorities charged the juvenile with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and reckless driving. The charges could be upgraded to theft of a motor vehicle and burglary pending further investigation.
The juvenile was booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center.
