SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington state parks officials will assess damage caused by the Aubrey White Fire at Riverside State Park and determine next steps for the impacted area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Rex Schultz, a community engagement manager with the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, said it is difficult to anticipate what cleanup will require until a ground assessment can be completed.
“Once the firefighting is done, our State Parks foresters will assess the situation for hazard trees,” Schultz said in an email.
As of Tuesday at 10 a.m., the area of Riverside State Park between the Morin Trailhead and the Wilbur Trailhead remains closed as firefighters continue work in the area.
The campground at the Equestrian Area will remain closed at least until Thursday.
The campground at the Bowl and Pitcher has reopened.
Schultz said nature has its way of recovering from fires, and the state’s job will be to help where possible and reconnect any trails that may have been severed during firefighting operations.
