SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police released more information on a false shooting report that delayed the Fourth of July fireworks show in Riverfront Park Friday night.
According to SPD, a fight broke out near the clocktower just after 10 p.m. Police say there was initially information about a possible gun being involved, but no shots went off.
SPD contacted a man who was believed to be involved with the fight. The man was not armed and no victims came forward, according to police.
While officers investigated the fight, they saw people running from the park due to false information of an active shooter in the area.
During that time, an announcement was made over the speaker system “for people to basically take cover,” SPD said.
SPD said there was nothing in the area that indicated a shooting of any kind took place.
Officers determined there was no danger in Riverfront Park and a reverse 911 text was sent out to the area.
The fireworks show began again around 10:25 p.m.
