SEATTLE – The best season of his career continues: Cal Raleigh was just named the American League starting catcher for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game.
Raleigh is the first Mariners catcher ever to be named an All-Star starter.
He leads the league in home runs (33) and runs batted in (71). Raleigh was also the first ever catcher and first switch-hitter to hit 30 home runs before the All-Star break. He’s is the fifth player all-time to have 33 home runs before the end of June.
“Cal getting selected to start the All-Star Game is such a great and well-deserved honor for him,” said Mariners manager Dan Wilson. “Cal embodies exactly what a team player is, someone who makes everyone around him better.”
Last season – Raleigh hit a career-high 34 homers. Now, he’s just one home run away from breaking that personal record… and there’s still another half of the season to go.
Raleigh is two homers away from passing Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. for the most home runs hit before the All-Star break (35 HR in 1998)
Fittingly, Raleigh will also participate in the home run derby during All-Star Week in Atlanta.
The full rosters for the All-Star game will be announced Sunday, July 6. The home run derby is July 14 and the big game is July 15.
