SPOKANE, Wash. — If you’re out celebrating Hoopfest this weekend, Spokane County Fire District 10 says to be aware of heat stroke symptoms.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, heat-related illnesses occur when your body overheats and can’t cool down. It can develop if you’re doing intense physical activity, such as playing basketball.
Heat stroke can be prevented by wearing loose-fitting and lightweight clothing, staying hydrated and limiting your exposure to the sun.
Heat stroke symptoms include a change in mental state or behavior, headache, high body temperature and nausea or vomiting.
Fire District 10 says if anyone shows these symptoms, get them to a cool place and call for help as soon as possible.
