EPHRATA, Wash. — A Quincy woman sustained life-threatening injuries Friday when a deer struck by one vehicle went airborne and crashed through the windshield of an oncoming car near Ephrata.
Zuri Tlahuel Jimenez, 19, of Moses Lake was driving a 2015 Subaru Legacy westbound near the intersection of Road 5-Northwest (White Trail Road) and Highway 283 when she struck a deer that had jumped into the roadway.
The impact sent the deer airborne into an eastbound 2005 Lincoln Navigator driven by Agustina Valverde Ortiz, 40, of Quincy.
The deer penetrated the Lincoln’s windshield, striking Valverde in the head and causing her vehicle to crash into a ditch.
Ortiz sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported via air ambulance to Kadlec Regional Medical Center.
Her passenger, Flora Ortiz Perez, 52, of Quincy, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Jimenez was not injured.
