ADAMS COUNTY, Wash. — The former Clerk-Treasurer and Fire Chief of Hatton is wanted for theft following a fraud investigation from the Washington State Auditor’s Office.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, audit investigations into Jared Matthew Potts began in 2023 following citizen concerns that were brought to the sheriff’s office’s attention.
The Auditor’s Office found that Potts was responsible for stealing more than $70,000 from the town of Hatton between December 2022 and November 2024.
On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office searched Potts’ home in Lind and found over 70 pieces of mail belonging to Adams and Grant County residents, as well as checks belonging to the town of Hatton.
The Sheriff’s Office said Potts is employed by the United States Postal Service.
Potts was not home when deputies searched the property. He is now wanted for charges of theft, possession of stolen property and seven counts of mail theft.
The Sheriff’s Office says Potts is known to travel in Lincoln County, Grant County and Adams County.
