KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) confirmed Tuesday that deputies helped turn over a man found to be in the U.S. illegally, and believed by law enforcement to be connected to a murder case.
KCSO said a deputy stopped a driver on Sunday, June 1, 2025 on I-90 near 4th St.
Deputies said one of the people in the car, Daniel Ochoa, was found to be in the country illegally, and was turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.
Deputies said Ochoa admitted to being in the U.S. illegally to Border Patrol, and was believed to be involved in a homicide investigation as well as other criminal charges outside of Idaho.
“This case is a strong example of the critical importance of communication and collaboration between our office and our Border Patrol partners,” said Sheriff Robert “Bob” Norris. “By working closely with the U.S. Border Patrol, we are able to share intelligence in real time and help ensure that individuals who pose a threat to our communities are identified and held accountable.”
