PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. – An 87-year-old Deer Park woman died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 2, eight miles south of Newport.
According to Washington State Patrol (WSP), Nancy L. Strand was killed on May 28 when her 2016 Subaru Forester crashed into a 2019 Toyota Prius driven by Nelson L. Antoniuk, 58, of Nine Mile Falls.
The crash occurred at 8:32 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 2 and Farrs Lane. Strand failed to yield the right-of-way and pulled out in front of Antoniuk’s northbound vehicle, according to the Washington State Patrol.
WSP said Strand died at Sacred Heart Medical Center. Antoniuk was injured and treated at Newport Hospital.
Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
In our previous version, we reported that Antoniuk was traveling southbound. However, an updated release from the WSP indicates that Antoniuk was actually traveling northbound.
