SPOKANE, Wash – The construction on the corner of the Cincinnati and Sharp roundabout is expected to conclude this November.
For the past year, drivers have observed the progress made on Gonzaga’s newest residence hall.
Mantua Hall is set to open for students in January of 2025.
It will offer 90 beds and common spaces for students to study, cook and hang out.
“Some of our housing is a little dated and a little older and it doesn’t have that kind of common spaces that we necessarily need to have to deliver the program that we want for students,” Kent Porterfield, Gonzaga University Vice Provost of Student Affairs said.
This is the first of many dorms Gonzaga hopes to build in their new “sophomore village”.
These residence halls would feature more suite-style bedrooms and communal spaces for second-year students.
It also allows the university to update some of its older housing.
“As we develop the site, we may have to take a couple of the older halls down. Right now, it depends on how we lay out the development of the village on that site,” said Porterfield.
According to Porterfield, the older residence halls – located east of the construction – are not expected to come down for a few years.
When that time comes, Porterfield reassured the proper steps would be taken to inform the nearby.
“We would go through kind of the same process as the city before we do any kind of construction,” said Porterfield. “That’s obviously what we would want to do anyway as good neighbors. But we would be thinking about the relationship of those facilities to the community because a lot of our students, you know, live in the Logan.”
