CHENEY, Wash – Over 1,700 students were evacuated from Cheney High School and Three Springs High School Wednesday afternoon for a bomb threat.
According to Cheney Police, the threat came in as an anonymous online tip through the School District’s website.
Law enforcement from around the region, including bomb sniffing dogs and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, came out to help with the threat.
Buses for all schools in the district were delayed due to the evacuation. High school students were eventually released around 3 p.m. Betz Elementary, located right next to Cheney High School, had parents or guardians pick up their students from inside the school at scheduled release time.
All after school activities at Three Springs High School and Homeworks were cancelled for Wednesday.
As of the last update, police were still sweeping Cheney High School but have yet to find any indications of a bomb on campus.
Police said there does not appear to be an immediate threat to the school or community.

Airway Heights police and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office responded along with bomb sniffing dogs from Fairchild Air Force Base.
Nearby, Betz Elementary is on secure and teach meaning exterior doors are locked but classes are ongoing.
Cheney Public Schools says bussing will be impacted and students may be delayed getting home. Parents and families will receive direct communication from the schools.
