KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — The Spirit Lake Fire Protection District is on track to pass it’s override levy on Tuesday night.
On the Kootenai County Consolidated Election’s ballot, the Spirit Lake Fire Protection District asked voters to authorize a temporary levy increase of $477,000 for “annual budget purposes” for no more than two years.
As of 11 p.m. on May 20, 67.7% of voters in Kootenai and Bonner County approve of the levy.
If passed, the levy would increase the cost to taxpayers from $50.83 to roughly $75.49 per $100,000 of assessed property value.
The override levy would fund staffing, operations and maintenance and purchase of new vehicles and facilities. “Most importantly, the funding will allow the Fire District to increase retention of well-trained experienced firefighters providing competitive wages,” reads the district’s website.
The levy needs a simple majority (over 50%) to pass.
Votes will continue to be counted over the coming days and will officially be certified on May 30.
