SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Leaders in Spokane, Spokane Valley and the county are working together on a solution to the homelessness crisis in the region.
The City of Spokane announced Tuesday that all three have signed an interlocal agreement to plan and coordinate housing and homeless services and projects.
“Addressing homelessness cannot be tackled alone by any single jurisdiction. This collaboration will allow us to pool our resources to coordinate planning efforts, establish priority interventions to meet the needs of our community, and jointly evaluate the performance of providers to maximize the regional funds dedicated to homelessness,” said Spokane Valley Mayor Pam Haley. “We are grateful for this partnership to address the regional crisis more efficiently and create greater and more lasting outcomes for those experiencing homelessness.”
The ILA focuses on coordinated planning for inclement weather responses as well as efforts related to the Homelessness Strategic plan. The jurisdictions will also share data collected and coordinate where homeless grant funding goes.
“Staff across our three jurisdictions have been working closely and effectively together to build strong partnerships grounded in shared goals. By continuing to collaborate, we can make more efficient use of public dollars and improve outcomes for people experiencing homeless in our communities,” Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown said.
