SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A man was arrested Wednesday morning for assaulting a woman and driving away in a car reported stolen out of Seattle.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, just before 10 a.m., a witness had stepped in to stop 36-year-old William C. Morris from attacking a woman.
The witness told Morris the police were notified, Morris jumped into a Kia Soul and tried to drive off. The other man told Morris he couldn’t leave until law enforcement arrived, but Morris didn’t listen and tried to move the car directly to where the other man was standing.
The witness, who was armed, shot at the vehicle’s tire before Morris drove off from the scene.
Liberty Lake Police later found the car near Sprague and Barker. Officers spotted an individual resembling Morris walking westbound on Sprague.
The female victim was also located and offered medical treatment.
Deputies learned Morris drove to Spokane from Seattle in the stolen Kia. The woman originally accepted a ride from Morris but then the two began arguing and Morris began assaulting her.
Morris was booked into Spokane County Jail for robbery, possessing a stolen vehicle and assault. He is also being held on a warrant from King County for possessing a stolen vehicle.
The man who shot Morris’s tire was released without charges.
