SPOKANE, Wash. — Developers in downtown Spokane will no longer be limited by building height restrictions, due to Spokane City Council’s recent vote.
On Monday night, Spokane City Council approved an interim zoning ordinance to eliminate building height limits in downtown Spokane.
Before the ordinance, which went into effect immediately after it was passed, buildings in downtown Spokane could be no taller than 12 stories.
“I am pleased that Council voted to take such an essential and creative step in moving our city forward,” said Councilmember Jonathan Bingle, sponsor for the ordinance. “More jobs, more businesses, more diverse housing, all things that will contribute to the vitality of our city and make for a dynamic downtown Spokane. I am thankful for the Mayor and her staff for their partnership in getting this done.”
The ordinance will stay in effect until September 24, 2025. The City of Spokane said it will continue to study different opportunities for growth and development in the city throughout the rest of the year.
