SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Prosecutor will not file criminal charges against nine Spokane Police Officers involved in a shooting that left a man dead last year.
Craig S. Anglisano died on January 31, 2024 when officers shot and killed him. Upon review of the case, the Prosecutor determined Officers William Braten, Michael Brunner, Steven Donges, William Dowsing, Trystan Herzog, Christopher Johnson, Ryan McLucas, Dylan Pavlischak and Andrew Wilson were justified in using lethal force.
The incident that led to Anglisano’s death started in Cheney where officers responded to a report of a possibly suicidal man. Cheney Police tried to find Anglisano’s but were unable.
Around the same time a 911 caller reported a man had given him a suicide note and also threatened to kill him. Multiple Spokane Officers responded to Edwidge Wolen Park near Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and found Anglisano armed with a pistol.
Police began to negotiate with Anglisano. At one point, officers asked if there was anything they could do to convince him to put his weapon down. His reply, according to police, was “no.”
According to the Prosecutor, about two hours after the initial call to Cheney Police, Anglisano pointed his gun at the officers who then fired. Anglisano fell to the ground. Anglisano pointed his gun two more times at the officers who opened fire. After the third time, Anglisano remained motionless on the ground. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation showed his 9mm pistol was loaded but had not been fired during the incident.
Toxicology tests following the autopsy were negative for tested substances.
