BENTON COUNTY, Wash. — One man died in a crash involving a Washington State Patrol trooper in Richland on Saturday, according to WSP.
Around 8 p.m. on March 1, 32-year-old off-duty WSP trooper Matthew Mason was driving west on SR-224, a mile east of Benton City.
35-year-old Antonio Aguirre was driving east on SR-224 when Mason’s car crossed the center line and struck Aguirre’s.
Mason’s car rolled before coming to a stop.
Aguirre was pronounced dead at the scene and Mason was transported to a nearby hospital for his injuries.
WSP said Mason was arrested by Richland Police Department for his involvement in the crash.
RPD is investigating the cause of the crash.
