BOISE, Idaho — Idaho families who kids attend nonpublic schools will soon be able to get a tax credit.
On Thursday, Idaho Governor Brad Little signed House Bill 93 into law which creates the Parental Choice Tax Credit program,
Through this program, families that have “qualified expenses” for nonpublic schools, which includes tuition, textbooks, and tutors, would be eligible for a refundable tax credit up to $5,000.
Families with children with special needs could be eligible for $7,500.
The bill says this would save the state $50 million.
In his statement, Governor Little says this makes Idaho the first state to offer education freedom.
However, not everyone agrees. The Idaho Democratic Party calls the bill a “scheme” that’s an attack on public education and appeasing out-of-state billionaires.
