SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Deputies arrested a man who stole car keys from a Spokane Valley business on Monday, according to Spokane Valley Police Department.
On February 24 around 9:30 a.m., deputies responded to a reported burglary at a business near Sprague Avenue and Girard Road.
An employee told deputies he noticed a broken vase next to an unlocked window and three keys belonging to cars parked on the lot were missing.
Surveillance video showed a man on a bicycle forcing his way into the business and stealing the keys.
Later, around 11 a.m., deputies responded to another call near 10th Avenue and Eastern Road about a man jumping in and out of people’s backyards.
Deputies searched the area and found a man matching the description for both the backyard trespassing and the earlier burglary.
Deputies arrested 36-year-old Michael A. Luciano. He told SVPD he believed he was being chased by people who wanted to kill him. He also admitted to using methamphetamine, which may have contributed to the belief he was being chased.
Luciano was booked into the Spokane County Jail for second-degree burglary.
The stolen keys were not recovered and are estimated to be worth about $1,500.
His bond was set at $1,000.
