NORTH IDAHO — The first significant winter storm of the season is expected to hit the mountains of North Idaho and Northwestern Montana starting today.
According to the Friends of the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center, snow levels are expected to get as low as 3,500 feet between Tuesday and Thursday.
By Thursday morning snow totals could reach 12 to 18 inches for elevations between 5,500 and 6,000 feet. Upwards of two feet of snow is possible around elevations of 7,000 feet and higher.
IPAC says to be cautious about avalanche dangers, especially on upper elevations.
