IDAHO — Idaho’s Department of Transportation is opening its third annual “Name a Snowplow” contest to students across the state, giving 6-12 grade classrooms a chance to inject personality into the vehicles that maintain road safety during winter.
Beginning October 1, classrooms can collaborate with teachers to submit original snowplow names throughout the month. Homeschool students are also welcome to participate. ITD will announce winning names by the end of the year.
“Our snowplow drivers take tremendous pride in keeping Idaho’s roads safe, and this contest gives students a fun way to connect with that work while learning about winter driving safety,” said Laila Kral, Chief Deputy of ITD.
Two snowplows in each of ITD’s six regions will receive student-selected names, chosen through voting by ITD employees. The winning names will be painted directly onto the plows.
Each winning classroom will receive a visit from their named snowplow and driver for a winter safety presentation. Local news media will be invited to cover these naming events.
The contest gives teachers an engaging way to introduce winter driving safety to students, particularly those preparing for driver’s education courses.
Educators teaching grades 6-12 and homeschool families can visit the contest rules webpage to submit entries. Questions can be directed to itdcommunication@itd.idaho.gov.
