VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Spokane Indians built an early lead and held off the Vancouver Canadians for a 6-3 win Saturday at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Spokane scored four runs in the third inning against Vancouver starter Travis Maroudis. Ethan Hedges drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Blake Penso, and Tanner Thach followed with a two-run single to right field. Thach finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Jacob Hinderleider extended the lead in the fourth, leading off the inning with his seventh home run of the season. The Indians added another run later in the inning to make it 6-0.
Spokane starter Bryson Van Sickle earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits over seven innings. He walked two and struck out two while working around a hit batter.
Vancouver got on the board in the sixth when Jake Casey hit a two-run home run to center field, his 11th homer of the season. Dameury Pena added a solo shot in the eighth, but Spokane reliever Crooks closed out the final two innings for his second save.
The Indians collected nine hits. Tommy Hopfe, Robert Calaz, Jacob Hinderleider, Blake Penso, Parker Coddou and Thach each had multiple hits or key run-producing contributions, while Spokane went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
The Indians improved to 56-68 with the victory. The Canadians fell to 60-65.
