LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Transportation will activate ramp meters on two westbound I-90 on-ramps in Liberty Lake beginning Tuesday, Aug. 25th.
The ramp meters will control vehicle entry onto westbound I-90 at the Harvard Road and Liberty Lake Road on-ramps. The meters space out vehicles entering the freeway, allowing traffic to merge smoothly and reducing congestion during peak commute times.
The meters will operate weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. When active, drivers must stop at the red light and proceed when the signal turns green and only one car goes every green light.
Signs at each ramp will inform drivers when the meters are operating. Drivers should plan for brief delays and follow all posted signs and signals.
WSDOT says studies show ramp meters reduce collisions by up to 30 percent.
On April 9, 2019, the first ramp meter in Spokane County was activated at the ramp from northbound US 195 to eastbound I-90.
When these two are activated, it’ll bring the total number in the county to 11.
