STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — Deputies with the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office shot and killed an armed man who allegedly shot at children near Tum Tum.
According to the sheriff’s office, a woman reported her children were shot at by a man around 5:30 p.m. on Highway 291 near Stone Lodge Road about 30 minutes north of Spokane.
Deputies located the suspect at home and attempted to get him to surrender. Around 8:30 p.m. the suspect came out of the home armed with a handgun and refused to obey commands.
Deputies say they attempted to use a less lethal weapon on the suspect, but he raised his handgun at deputies.
Deputies then fired several shots hitting and killing the suspect. Four deputies were placed on routine administrative leave.
Washington State Patrol will take over the investigation.
