SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho — Firefighters are making progress on the Gold Run Fire burning between Elizabeth Park and Big Creek, south of Interstate 90 in Shoshone County, with containment reaching 20% as of Wednesday evening, according to the Idaho Department of Lands. The fire remains estimated at 235 acres.
More than 120 structures, including homes, remain threatened. Three non-residential outbuildings were confirmed lost earlier in the incident, but no additional structures have been lost, according to the Idaho Department of Lands.
Evacuation notices remain active for the Big Creek and Elizabeth Park area. Residents from Big Creek east to Johnson Street on both sides of I-90 remain in “Ready” status. The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office is managing evacuation information.
Approximately 200 personnel are assigned to the fire, including three Type 1 hotshot crews and three additional Type 2 initial attack crews. The incident transitions to a Type 3 incident management team Thursday morning, according to the Idaho Department of Lands.
The fire is under Idaho Department of Lands protection, with cooperating agencies including the U.S. Forest Service, Silver Valley Fire Rescue, Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, Kellogg Police Department and Osburn Police Department.
The cause remains under investigation.
