SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A 39-year-old Spokane Valley man faces felony and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges after witnesses reported he threw and hit a 12-week-old puppy.
Christopher R. Myers was arrested Wednesday evening on charges of Animal Cruelty 1st Degree and Animal Cruelty 2nd Degree.
Deputies and a SCRAPS officer responded to the intersection of South Skipworth Road and East 4th Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. A caller reported seeing Myers abuse a white and brown puppy, causing the animal to cry and yelp.
When officers arrived, witnesses provided written statements detailing the abuse. Myers initially refused to exit the home but eventually complied. When questioned, he told officers he couldn’t remember what happened.
Myers later admitted he brought the puppy outside because it had defecated on the couch. He said he picked the puppy up and “tossed” it into the grass.
The SCRAPS officer obtained a search warrant to seize the puppy for its safety and bring it to an emergency clinic for evaluation.
Myers was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
