SPOKANE, Wash — Free outdoor fitness classes return to downtown Spokane this week as Riverfront Moves launches its summer programming at Riverfront Park.
The program begins Tuesday with a beginner-friendly mat Pilates class hosted by Precision Pilates. Eighteen classes are planned through Aug. 20, offering complimentary fitness instruction in the park setting.
“From our class they are going to get a lot more foundational stuff, so it truly is for anyone and everybody’s bodies,” said Amber Butler, owner and founder of Precision Pilates. “We are going to make sure you move properly. We are going to give you some different things to think about so you have a Pilates mindfulness that you can take from this one-hour class and take into anything and everything forever if you choose.”
Organizers expect between 50 and 100 people at each class. This month focuses on Pilates instruction, while July will feature yoga and strength training classes.
All classes are mat-based and designed for outdoor conditions. Organizers said participants should come prepared for summer weather conditions during the sessions.
“Our mission is to provide free and low-cost programming for the community,” said Amy Lindsey, marketing and programming director for Riverfront Park. “And this is just one of those programs that align perfectly with that mission.”
Classes typically run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, though not every week follows this schedule. Weekday sessions run from 6 to 7 p.m., while weekend classes are scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m.
