SPOKANE — As Spokane prepares to welcome Team Egypt for the World Cup this summer, locals now have a new way to experience Egyptian culture through food.
Feteers, the city’s first Egyptian restaurant, opened its doors on Northwest Boulevard, drawing customers eager to sample authentic Egyptian cuisine. The restaurant specializes in feteers — a signature dish featuring meat, cheese and vegetables wrapped in crispy pastry dough.
The menu offers both savory and sweet variations of feteers, including a Dubai chocolate feteer that owner Amir Talb calls one of his favorites.
“You cannot miss this one,” Talb said.
Talb owns the restaurant with his brother. While this marks his first restaurant venture in America, he brings extensive experience from Egypt’s food industry.
“We have experience in this food in Egypt, and that’s why we love to bring it here in Spokane, so everybody will come to try it,” Talb explained.
Several customers said they had been eagerly anticipating the restaurant’s grand opening, and the food exceeded their expectations.
“There’s something comforting about, like, just flaky crust and meat and cheese,” Palomarez said.
Among the opening day customers were soccer fans preparing for Team Egypt’s arrival for the World Cup. One customer mentioned securing tickets to an Egypt match in Seattle for his family.
Talb expressed particular excitement about the Egyptian national team’s upcoming visit to Spokane. He extended an open invitation to the players, hoping to serve them a taste of home during their stay.
“We hope we can serve the team here when they can come to Spokane. It’s a big opportunity for us,” Talb said.
