Taylor Swift Drops “Elizabeth Taylor” Music Video — But Fans Are Divided
Taylor Swift just surprised fans with a brand-new music video for her song “Elizabeth Taylor” — but not everyone is loving it.
The video, released March 31, is a full-on tribute to Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor. Instead of featuring Swift herself, the entire visual is made up of archival clips from Taylor’s classic films and real-life moments, including scenes from Cleopatra, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
It’s a pretty bold creative choice — and a major departure from Swift’s usual cinematic, story-driven music videos.
The late actress’ estate actually loved it, calling the video a “celebration” of her life and legacy, and saying Elizabeth Taylor would have been honored by the tribute
But fans? Not all convinced.
Some viewers were expecting a traditional music video starring Swift, and instead got what feels more like a montage or “visual edit.” Online reactions have been mixed, with some calling it “disappointing” and saying it feels more like a compilation of old movie clips than a full music video
Others, though, appreciate the artistic angle — pointing out that using only archival footage keeps the focus on Elizabeth Taylor herself and avoids trying to recreate or imitate such an iconic figure.
Bottom line: it’s a love letter to Old Hollywood… just not the kind of music video Swifties are used to.
