SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash — The Spokane community showed up to support local organizations this holiday season.
The ‘Light the World’ Giving Machine was set up in the Spokane Valley Mall over the holidays and aimed to support nonprofits supporting families and children in the Inland Northwest.
People were able to give to Teen & Kid Closet, Second Harvest Inland Northwest, Project Beauty Share, SNAP, Water for Good, CARE, and Vanessa Behan.
Rather than purchasing items for themselves, individuals selected items such as food, clothing, and other resources that are donated directly to the nonprofit organizations.
In total, people donated more than $227,840.00 to seven organizations across our area between mid-November and January.
Second Harvest Northwest received the largest donation, totaling $44,205.00.
This was the first season of having a Giving Machine in the Spokane area.
