SPOKANE, Wash. — An electrical fire at an old home in Spokane’s Minnehaha neighborhood last Friday left one person and two dogs displaced.
According to the Spokane Fire Department, an off-duty firefighter passed the house fire on East Hartson Avenue around 9:30 a.m. last Friday.
Fire crews arrived shortly and worked to put out the fire. SFD said the fire started in a wall with vintage electrical wiring and spread to the attic.
The Red Cross helped one person and two dogs with temporary housing.
SFD wants to remind people that vintage wiring in old homes does not always meet current fire and life safety codes and can be prone to failure.
If you are concerned about your home’s electrical system, consult an electrician.
