COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Spirit Lake Police officers now have deputy powers in the county again, as those powers were reinstated this week by the Kootenai County sheriff.
Sheriff Bob Norris suspended the powers in May 2023, citing concerns about “law enforcement system security.”
The sheriff’s office says Spirit Lake Police has an indirect access agreement that allows them to access sensitive law enforcement data.
The news release didn’t indicate what issues came up related to that agreement.
“Chief Michael Morlan and Lt. Eric Reade have stabilized the department and have improved system security and personnel oversight and training,” Sheriff Norris said in a news release. “Chief Morlan and I are committed to serving the residents of Spirit Lake with the finest law enforcement service available.”
