A person of interest was detained yesterday in connection to the abduction of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy. Authorities haven’t released any details about the suspect other than confirming it is not a family member. The individual has since been released.
Earlier in the day, the FBI shared six surveillance photos and two videos of a possible suspect. In the footage, the alleged abductor appears to be tampering with security cameras outside Nancy’s home.
The images show someone wearing a jacket, ski mask, and gloves, carrying a backpack with what looks like a firearm at their waist. The person is seen trying to block Nancy’s doorbell camera first with a glove, then with flowers taken from her porch.
At first, investigators believed there was no usable footage because Nancy did not have a subscription plan for her doorbell camera, meaning the video was not stored. However, the FBI says it was able to recover residual data from backend systems.
A ransom note reportedly demanded $6 million in Bitcoin in exchange for Nancy’s safe return. According to TMZ, there was activity yesterday in the Bitcoin account tied to the ransom, though the amount was not disclosed.
Nancy has been missing since Sunday, February 1. Savannah shared one of the surveillance videos on social media yesterday, saying she believes her mother is still alive.
