AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — An Airway Heights man was sentenced to 22 years in prison for the abuse and death of his girlfriend’s daughter on Tuesday.
According to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office, 31-year-old Aleksandr O. Kurmoyarov was sentenced to 275 months in prison for the abuse and death of an 8-year-old girl who lived with him and his girlfriend.
The girl’s adopted mother, Mandie Miller, was sentenced to 32 years in prison last week.
The Prosecutor’s Office says the couple confined her to a room in their home, bound her ankles and wrists to a car seat and a bed, and restrained her for hours at a time. The abuse, starvation and neglect led to the child’s death in September of 2022.
In December of that same year, the couple rented a U-Hail, put the girl’s body in a casket, and tried to have her buried at a funeral home in South Dakota. Staff at the funeral home became suspicious when the couple had no documentation of the girl’s death and contacted law enforcement.
Kurmoyarov and Miller were arrested in South Dakota for failing to report the death of a child. They were then extradited to Spokane County to be charged for the girl’s murder.
Kurmoyarov pled guilty to 2nd Degree murder, 2nd Degree Assault and 3 counts of Unlawful Imprisonment in September of 2023.
