HAUSER LAKE, Idaho – Two dogs from Double J Dog Ranch in Hauser Lake will compete in Animal Planet’s annual Puppy Bowl on Sunday, getting a taste of stardom at the canine version of the Super Bowl.
Foxy and Eleanor flew to New York for Puppy Bowl filming, which involved three days of activity and competition. The staff says Foxy enjoyed the Big Apple experience.
“It’s a wonderful experience going to New York City every year, and we’ve made several friends in other rescues throughout the country over the years. It’s fun meeting all the additional puppies. The whole experience is pretty incredible,” said shelter owner and founder Cristene Justus.
Double J Dog Ranch has been sending dogs to the Puppy Bowl since 2015, and all of the dogs they’ve sent have had special needs. Foxy is recovering from some injuries in her past, and Eleanor is deaf.
Justus says she appreciates the event’s mission to showcase special needs animals.
“It’s a great example of showing the country that special needs dogs are perfect in every way that matters. They don’t know they’re any different, and they have a great quality of life. Through this platform, we get to elevate that,” Justus said.
Eleanor has already been adopted, but Foxy is still looking for her forever home. The shelter staff says she is high energy and adventurous.
