SPOKANE, Wash. — A suspect turned himself in Thursday morning after two people were shot and killed in an apartment complex in North Spokane, police said.
The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when police received multiple calls reporting shots fired. Officers arrived to find two people dead from gunshot wounds in a third-floor apartment.
Police established a containment perimeter after learning the suspect was in a nearby apartment. The suspect remained there for nearly 10 hours before surrendering.
“We set up containment. Additional resources were brought in to, you know, contain everything for safety purposes. And right around 9:30 this morning, we made contact with the person who we believe is the suspect,” said Daniel Strassenberg of the Spokane Police Department.
“He walked out to us. He was cooperative,” Strassenberg said. “He was detained without issue and we got him up to the hospital to obviously check on his injuries.”
The suspect was treated for injuries before being processed. Police have not released the suspect’s identity or his relationship to the victims.
The suspect faces second-degree murder charges and is expected to appear in court Friday. The investigation remains ongoing.
