COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho. — A Pinehurst man will spend more than six years in federal prison after authorities discovered an arsenal of illegal weapons at his home.
Michael William Luma, 48, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for unlawful possession of firearms, U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis announced Monday. Chief District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford also ordered Luma to serve three years of supervised release.
The case began in November 2023 when law enforcement received reports of gunshots from Luma’s residence. Investigators discovered Luma was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction for aggravated assault.
After securing a search warrant, officers found 16 firearms, including machine guns and silencers, thousands of rounds of ammunition, large-capacity magazines and “ghost gun” components. They also discovered a 3-D printer and drill press.
When contacted at his home, Luma was carrying a loaded handgun magazine and possessed 11 fentanyl pills, half a gram of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe.
