SAGLE, Idaho — The Selkirk Fire Department is sharing some helpful tips so you can protect yourself and your family from carbon monoxide.
Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas created when fuels burn incompletely. In the home, heating and cooking equipment are common sources for carbon monoxide.
Selkirk Fire says vehicles or generators running in attached garages can also produce dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
Carbon monoxide safety can be easy with the following steps:
Make sure your heating and cooking equipment is properly ventilated.Install and maintain a carbon monoxide detector in your home.Never use a generator or outdoor cooking equipment indoors or in a poorly ventilated areaCall 911 if your carbon monoxide detector is activating or if someone is showing signs and symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.
