SPOKANE, Wash. — Winds are expected to pick up overnight for the Inland Northwest, with gusts expected to be anywhere from 45 to 55 miles an hour.
Avista crews are preparing now to respond to any tree limbs that may be pulled apart from the wind.
“Our crews are always prepared and ready,” said David Vowels with Avista Corporate Communications. “We call ourselves storm ready.”
The weather isn’t anything Avista has seen before. But when the conditions are right, some storms have the potential to do more than just rattle your windows.
“This particular storm came with a lot of rain beforehand, which made the soil saturated, which caused trees to uproot and come in contact with our power lines,” Vowels said.
If your power does go out, report it on Avista’s website or app and crews will respond as soon as they can. This goes for downed power lines too.
“If there’s a downed power line, please don’t go near it,” Vowels warned. “Don’t drive over it. Call 1-800-227-9187 or 911 to report a downed power line.”
For updates, Avista says to make sure it knows how to get ahold of you.
“Please (also) secure those Christmas decorations,” Vowels said. “You don’t want those going into your neighbor’s yard.”
