SPOKANE, Wash. — Downtown Spokane is receiving a much-needed deep clean this week as the Downtown Spokane Partnership mobilizes volunteers for its annual Fall Clean Week.
Although DSP maintains downtown streets daily, this week, the organization is expanding its efforts to include volunteer crews to target different areas of the city center each day.
The comprehensive cleanup covers sidewalk maintenance, graffiti removal, viaduct cleaning and landscaping projects at Riverfront Park.
“It’s always good to have a helping hand down here,” said Eduardo Castillo with the Downtown Spokane Partnership. “And that’s really what we’re here for – Help these businesses out, help the downtown community thrive, and try to bring more attention to the importance of downtown and all the resources that we can help provide and make it all better.”
Monday’s cleanup crew focused on sidewalk maintenance, picking up trash and ensuring walkways remain clean and accessible for pedestrians.
The timing of the cleanup week strategically prepares downtown Spokane for the upcoming holiday season, when foot traffic and business activity typically increase. Partnership organizers hope the enhanced appearance will encourage more residents to visit and support downtown businesses.
“We appreciate anybody who comes out and lends a hand,” Castillo said. “It gives everybody a chance to see what we do and to help play a part in that. And it’s a good opportunity to take a role in something. And then you can come down here later and see that you helped make that happen.”
The Downtown Spokane Partnership is still seeking additional volunteers for the remaining cleanup activities this week. For more information and to sign up to volunteer, visit www.downtownspokane.org.
