SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A suspected impaired driver crashed into a parked car and started a fire late Saturday night in Spokane Valley, leading to his arrest on DUI charges.
Spokane Valley deputies responded at 11:55 p.m. on Sept. 28 to reports of a vehicle that had crashed into an unoccupied parked car and caught fire, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies identified the driver as Miguel A. Rivera Martinez, 51, who owned the Subaru that crashed. When speaking with Rivera Martinez, deputies observed bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of intoxicants, the sheriff’s office said.
Spokane Valley Fire Department crews extinguished the fire and offered medical aid, but Martinez refused treatment, according to authorities.
A breath test showed Martinez’s blood alcohol content measured .180/.179, more than twice Washington’s legal limit of .08. A criminal history check revealed he had been arrested for DUI in Idaho in December 2024, the sheriff’s office said.
Martinez was booked into the Spokane County Jail for driving under the influence.
No injuries were reported, according to authorities.
