STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — An hours-long standoff with a domestic violence suspect ended with the man being shot by deputies.
According to the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home on Old Arden Highway about six miles south of Colville for a reported disturbance around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Deputies say 56-year-old Anthony Sparacino is suspected of severely assaulting another man at the home.
Sparacino refused to come out of the home. Deputies say information indicated he was alone in the house with multiple guns. Deputies also note Sparacino has made suicidal ideations in the past.
At 10:30 p.m. law enforcement from Colville, Kettle Falls, and Chewelah police as well as Washington State Patrol responded.
Deputies say they were able to contact Sparacino and tried to get him peacefully surrender. Deputies also tried using CS gas and pepper balls to get him to surrender from midnight to 2:30 a.m.
Around 2:30 a.m., deputies say Sparacino pointed a gun at law enforcement and three officers shot at him. He was hit multiple times.
Deputies say Sparacino continued to fight officers before he was taken into custody and treated. He was last reported in stable condition at Sacred Heart.
The three officers who fired their weapons have been placed on routine administrative leave for the investigation. WSP is investigating the shooting.
